Kind World: A Skydiver’s Sacrifice

What is it that makes someone stop and help a stranger in need? Producer Lisa Tobin and I have been exploring that question in a radio series for Boston NPR station, WBUR. The series is called , and it features stories of kindness and the profound effect that one act can have on a person’s life.

For David Hartsock and Shirley Dygert, their entire friendship was formed and put to the ultimate test in less than a minute. That’s how long it took them to fall to the earth from a plane. Hartsock and Dygert tell the story of the day they met in the summer of 2009 on an airfield in Texas.
